Herman Miller Sweet Corn Festival Summer Picnic by Steve Frykholm 1970

Herman Miller’s modernist American Furniture Company started having picnics for their employees from the late 1940’s onwards.

Steve Frykholm was employed in 1970 as the first in-house graphic designer and went on to design the picnic posters some 20 in all. The one known as the Sweet Corn Festival is the first one Frykholm designed in 1970 and it won the American Institute of Graphic Art for that year. Frykholm continued as graphic designer with Herman Miller for a further 45 years and he is considered amongst the greats of American Pop Art
